Billboard Latin Music Awards Postponed

‘Billboard’ & Telemundo postpone the long-running awards show and Latinfest+ conference amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Billboard and Telemundo have just announced the postponement of the Billboard Latin Music Awards and the Latinfest+ conference, due to the coronavirus pandemic. Both events were scheduled to take place in Las Vegas, NV over 20 April – 23 April and feature some of Latin music’s biggest talents, including Puerto Rican singer and rapper Bad Bunny, Colombian reggaeton singer J Balvin, norteño legends Los Tigres del Norte and the “New King of Reggaeton”, Ozuna. A future date has not yet been confirmed.

The 27th annual Billboard Latin Music Awards ceremony was set to air live on Telemundo from the Mandalay Bay Events Center on 23 April. The longest-running awards ceremony in the Latin Music industry recognises the year’s best-selling songs, albums, producers, songwriters and, of course, performers in the genre. Leading this years’ nominations are Bad Bunny and Ozuna, who are both up for 14 awards – including Artist Of The Year. Other top contenders include J Balvin, Daddy Yankee and Farruko, as well as crossover artists Drake, DJ Snake and Katy Perry.

In its 30th year, the newly rechristened Latinfest+, formerly Latin Music Conference, is the longest-running and biggest Latin music gathering in the world. The four-day cultural celebration had scheduled over 40 events and 50 speakers, including Carlos Vives, Lunay, Mariah and J Balvin.

A statement released by Billboard and Telemundo today said that, “Following the Nevada Governor’s recommendations to limit the size of public gatherings for the prevention and containment of COVID-19, Telemundo and Billboard announced they will postpone the upcoming Billboard Latin Music Awards”. They added that “The LatinFest+ conference, which was scheduled for April 20-23 at The Venetian, will also be postponed. The health and safety of our guests, artists, participants and staff continue to be our highest priority, and we look forward to rescheduling the awards show and conference in the near future.”
